In a letter addressing the fifth Global Baku Forum, British Prime Minister Theresa May stated that Azerbaijan and the UK successfully cooperate on numerous, important issues and will continue to work towards deeper and stronger relations.

She recognized that this year marks the 25th anniversary of what she called “strong and productive” diplomatic ties.

May’s letter was read by Stephen McCormick, Deputy Head of the UK’s mission to Azerbaijan, who also congratulated Azerbaijan on hosting the forum, which ran March 16-17.

The two-day event, held in Azerbaijan’s capital city each year, was headlined “Future of foreign relations: Power and interests.” The event opened on Thursday and brought hundreds of government and non-government officials from around the world to address regional and global issues, including the future of transatlantic relations and the role of China in international affairs.

The UK remains the largest foreign investor in Azerbaijan with over 300 British companies operating in the country, including the oil and gas giant British Petroleum.
