Russia’s national women’s basketball team clinched a European title when they won the 2017 International Basketball Federation (FIBA) 3x3 Europe Cup in Amsterdam, beating the Spanish team 22:14, in Sunday’s final match.

Twelve national teams from across Europe competed in this year’s games, which took place from July 7-9.

The Russian women’s team also scooped gold in the fourth edition of the FIBA 3x3 World Cup, held in Nantes, France from June 17-21. There, the Russian team beat Hungary 19:12. The Russian 3x3 women’s team is currently ranked third worldwide, behind Serbia and Slovenia, according to FIBA rankings.

Three-on-three basketball, also known as “streetball,” is played between two teams on a half-court with one hoop. Each team consists of three players and one substitute. The game is considered the largest urban team sport in the world, and FIBA sees it as a major vehicle for promoting basketball worldwide.

FIBA first tested 3x3 at the 2007 Asian Indoor Games in Macau, and the sport gained Olympic standing earlier this year.

The 2018 FIBA 3x3 World Cup will be held in Manila, Philippines, while Debrecen, Hungary will host the Europe Cup in 2019.
