Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Holds Working Meetings at OSCE

Meeting between FM Mammadyarov and Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Federal Foreign Minister of Germany and OSCE Chairperson-in-Office / Azerbaijan Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Several high-level sideline meetings and consultations were held by Azerbaijan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov during the 23rd Organization for the Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Ministerial Council on December 8th and 9th. During each of these meetings, Minister Mammadyarov discussed the negotiation process on the settlement of the Azerbaijan-Armenia Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, including the need for fostering a dialogue between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Other important topics of mutual interest were also discussed.

Minister Mammadyarov met with Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the Federal Foreign Minister of Germany and OSCE Chairperson-in-Office. The ministers discussed the development of a bilateral relationship between Azerbaijan and Germany. They exchanged their views on further expansion of cooperation in the fields of economy and trade.

Minister Mammadyarov also met with Herbert Salber, the European Union (EU) Special Representative for the South Caucasus region. At the meeting, the prospect of an Azerbaijan-European Union relationship was discussed. Other topics of conversation included public diplomacy efforts undertaken by the EU and EU-supported public projects geared to help resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

During the meeting between Minister Mammadyarov and Peter Stenlund, the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Finland, the men conversed about the development of relations between Azerbaijan and Finland. Mr. Stenlund conveyed his sincere congratulations to Minister Mammadyarov on the 25th anniversary of Azerbaijan's independence and underscored the OSCE Minsk Group’s activities to help support the peaceful settlement of the Azerbaijan-Armenia Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

When Minister Mammadyarov met with Witold Waszczykowski, the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Poland, the ministers showed satisfaction with the current state of bilateral relations between the two countries. The ministers also exchanged views on the expansion of cooperation in various fields, including economy and trade. They also discussed steps aimed at further strengthening of relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union, in particular the newly launched negotiations over the Special Partnership Agreement.

Minister Mammadyarov met with Erlan Idrissov, the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan. During the meeting, the two ministers lauded the advancement of bilateral cooperation between their countries and discussed issues regarding the legal status of the Caspian Sea.
