Azerbaijan Condemns Terror Attack in Istanbul

Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev delivered his condolences to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, wishing the injured the “swiftest possible recovery.”

Additionally, the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan strongly criticized the recent terror attack in Istanbul, Turkey, offering condolences to families effected by this horrific crime. 

“We condemn in strongest terms the bloody terror act perpetrated in Besiktas region of Istanbul, which caused for many deaths and injuries.”

Conveying Azerbaijan’s heartfelt condolences, the ministry, once again, reiterated the solidarity of Azerbaijan with fraternal Turkey.  

“As a state suffering from terrorism, Azerbaijan firmly condemns all forms and manifestations of terrorism and supports the efforts of the international community in the fight against terrorism.” 

Two consecutive explosions occurred near a football stadium in Besiktas region of Istanbul on December 10, claiming the lives of at least 44 people, including 36 police officers, according to recent report by Turkish Health Ministry. Terror attacks, followed by gunshots, as the Turkish media reported, targeted mainly the Turkish riot police.

A Kurdish militant group called TAK, a Kurdistan Workers’ Party’s (PKK) outgrowth, claimed responsibility for the bloodshed. 160 citizens were wounded, in addition to the deaths.
