Extensive search and rescue operations for missing oil workers continue following a disaster at an oil plant in Azerbaijan on December 15th, according to the State Marine Administration.

Pursuant to President Ilham Aliyev’s instructions and an adopted action plan, 44 vessels, 6 helicopters and 700 rescuers and divers are involved in large-scale search and rescue operations. Additional rescue forces from the Emergency Ministry and State Border Services are conducting search and rescue operations on the coastal areas of the Caspian Sea.

Strong winds knocked down a trestle on the oil gathering center of an oil-gas production plant belonging to the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) on the Caspian Sea last week. As a result, ten workers are missing. Thus far, one body has been found and nine workers are still missing.
