An accident transpired in a State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) oil gathering center of the oil-gas production plant on the Caspian Sea at 05:00 am (UTC/GMT+4) on December 15th. According to SOCAR, the accident occurred when a strong wind caused a 150-meter long part of a trestle next to the center to fall into the sea. Some 10 employees are missing and one body has been recovered, according to initial reports.

President Ilham Aliyev ordered the immediate search and rescue of the missing workers. The Ministry of Emergency Situations is involved in searching operations for the missing workers with two rescue vessels and a helicopter, alongside five vessels deployed on the site by the State Maritime Administration (SMA). Searching operations are unfortunately hindered by deteriorating weather conditions accompanied by a storm in the sea, according to the SMA press service.

SOCAR has created an emergency headquarters and launched a hotline service to deal with the questions or concerns about these operations.
