Aleksandr Chekhirkin (75 kg) and Musa Evloev (98 kg) claimed silver, while bronze went to Stepan Maranyan (59 kg) and Artem Surkov (66 kg), both winners at the 2015 European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Iran came in at number two, with three bronze medals and a total of 36 points. Mohammad Ali Geraei (71 kg), Saeid Abdevali (75 kg) and Hossein Nouri (85 kg) were all successful in their wins on the first day of the tournament on Monday.

According to the August 2017 United World Wrestling (UWW) Greco-Roman world rankings, Russia’s Surkov tops the list of wrestlers at the 66 kg weight category worldwide. Azerbaijan’s Rasul Chunayev leads in the 71 kg category, despite his defeat against Germany’s Frank Stabler in round 32 at the 2017 WWC in Paris. -

This year’s World Wrestling Championships was the 14th competition of its kind, and began on August 21. The competition features a combination of Men’s Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, as well as Women’s Freestyle. Women’s matches wrap up on Saturday.
