Azerbaijan’s foreign minister expressed continued support for NATO-led Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan.

“Azerbaijan, as a reliable partner of NATO and friend of brotherly Afghanistan, is committed to continue its significant contribution to the Resolute Support Mission beyond 2016 by providing troops, multi-modal transit, training and financial assistance.”

The minister then added that Baku backs Afghanistan "on its path of reforms towards integrating into regional and global economy." According to Mammadyarov’s statement,

"Azerbaijan will play a role of liaison between Europe and Kabul through the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railroad and the new seaport in Alat."

Located on the western coast of the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan actively participates in NATO’s peacekeeping operations. Earlier this month Baku took over the presidency in the Istanbul Process, which is aimed at encouraging security, political, and economic cooperation among Afghanistan and its neighbors.
