Azerbaijani doctors on Tuesday administered first aid to Armenian-origin residents of the Karabakh region.

The residents were part of the group transported from Armenia to Azerbaijan's Karabakh region by the Russian peacekeepers through the Lachin road, Baku-based Caliber.Az news service reported.

After an unexpected deterioration in the health of four residents, the Russian peacekeepers called on Azerbaijani medical personnel from a hospital in Shusha.

Following the first aid, the residents were transported to Khankendi, a city in the Karabakh region populated partially by Armenians.

“We were informed about the deterioration in the health of citizens passing through the territory under the temporary control of Russian peacekeepers. We immediately arrived at the scene in two ambulances,” Vilad Aliyev, a doctor at the Shusha modular hospital, was quoted as saying by the Baku-based Report news service.

Under the supervision of Azerbaijani doctors, the Karabakh Armenians were safely taken to a hospital in Khankendi, Vilad Aliyev said.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijani eco-activists and civil society members are holding a protest on the Lachin road connecting the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan with Armenia. The protestors demand an immediate end to the illegal exploitation of the mineral resources in the Karabakh region and the misuse of the road.

The illegal mineral extraction in the Karabakh region and the transfer of the ores through the Lachin road to Armenia prompted a serious backlash from the Azerbaijani society and authorities who demanded a more effective control of the Lachin road by the Russian peacekeepers. Caliber.Az reported that eight Kamaz trucks made their way from the Khankendi to Armenia between November 10 and November 14, 2022. Moreover, on November 16-18, the same vehicles were seen along the Lachin road from Armenia to Khankendi.

Furthermore, the Lachin road was used for massive illegal arms supplies for the separatists in the Karabakh region, including landmines produced in Armenia in 2021. In November 2022, the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan discovered a large minefield in the Saribaba high ground near the district of Shusha in the Karabakh region.

The ministry’s sapper units also unearthed 350 units of PMN-E anti-personnel mines produced in Armenia in 2021.
