On December 14th, Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) announced that its new, low-cost air carrier, Buta Airways, will be launched in Azerbaijan. Services are expected to start in Fall 2017.

Buta Airways, a subsidiary of AZAL, will have its own fleet of Embraer aircraft and will be headquartered at Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku. It is hoped that tourism will be boosted by providing low-cost flight options to and from Azerbaijan.

Currently, AZAL provides flights to 13 popular destinations under AZALJET, a low-cost passenger airline with ticket prices starting as low as 49 euros.

AZAL controls the largest share of Azerbaijan’s air services. It boasts Dreamliner service between Baku and New York City, providing first class comfort and safety on one of the world’s most state-of-the-art airplanes. Besides Boeing aircrafts, AZAL uses airplanes from Airbus and Embraer.
