Azerbaijan, Israel Initial Agreement on Air Communication

A delegation of the Civil Aviation Administration of Azerbaijan paid a two-day visit to Israel, December 26-27, 2016.

Received by the Civil Aviation Authority of Israel, the Azerbaijani and Israeli deligations discussed the issues of bilateral cooperation in the field of air transport and agreed upon operation of the scheduled passenger and cargo flights of the designated airlines of both countries.

During the meeting, the parties initialed an agreement on air communication between the government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the government of the State of Israel.

Israel and Azerbaijan, a majority-Muslim country, have enjoyed strong cooperation in many spheres over the years. Trade turnover between the two countries amounts to USD 5 billion. Azerbaijan supplies 40 percent of Isreal's oil, while Israel exports agricultural and medical technologies, invests in clean-tech projects and sells arms and military equipment.

Recently, the two countries signed a range of documents aimed at strengthening agricultural cooperation, as well as avoiding double taxation during Israeli Premier Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to Azerbaijan in mid-December.
