Azerbaijan-Iran Train Service to Resume Soon

Direct train service between Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan and Iran’s Mashhad will begin running on December 29, 2016. 

Departing twice a week, the express train will run from Nakhchivan via Julfa and the Iranian cities of Tabriz, Tehran, and Mashhad. Located in the in the northeast of Iran, Mashhad is the second most populous city in the country. Tickets are available for sale starting December 24. 

The rail service was part of a framework agreement signed by the two countries on February 23, 2016. The new route is expected to augment the sustainable development of friendly relations, railway communication and tourism between Iran and Azerbaijan.
