Winemakers from Azerbaijan and Europe attended the 4th International Wine Festival in Ganja, the second major city of Azerbaijan, on December 19th. The festival showcased prominent wine brands produced locally and abroad. The festival, held on the Park Boulevard, included international vintners from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Georgia, France, Italy, and Bulgaria.

“The locally produced wines are an excellent match for the local foods - Saperavi for lule kebab…and Viognier for chicken and local fish dishes.”
Known for thousands of years for its wine tradition, Azerbaijan was identified by Herodotus in the 5th century BC as “more famous than Iran, Greece, and Babylon” due to the abundance and quality of its grapes. Modern vintners produce wine using over 20 types of grapes, including Aligote, Viorica, Padarok, Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc, to name just a few.
Favorite brands of wine among locals and tourists alike include Sultan, Gabala, Madrasa, Lights of Baku, Seven Graces, and Savalan.
